Namtan Mai Ep 1-4 Review

Posted by danseurella on September 28, 2009

Have you been tuning in to Namtan Mai (Burnt Sugar) by Umm and Aff? So far so good at least for me though I don’t like how Channel 3 dramas have to develop every side story. This, there’s Ae and Tao, Nian and her Po, and in ep 1 & 2, show ALL those scenes about Nian (Ploy) and her boyfriends. It gets a little draggy, what with Jaeng-La and Nian, Ae (Boy Chakchai) and Tao(Tah)’s scenes all over the place and of course the sickeningly sweet scenes of Nian and her dad. I envy Nian’s relationship with her dad but it’s a little too much to show it all the time, yes we get how close they are, thank you very much. Spare us from them.

I got to say I love how Boy made Ae so so so irritating that I want to stab his face. Seriously I got to give Boy thumbs up for his variation of expressions which makes you want to strangle him. Haha just SO rai.

And the music’s terrible. Wrong background music at the right emotional instant can dry up my tears. Some scenes when it should have been so emotional, instead of emotional and sweet music there’s the saxophone sounding like when nang’rai is sleeping with her man. Sounds a little cheap, eg in ep3 during the bed scene. Threw me off my emotions a little. I’m not saying saxophone’s not emotional and such but…well maybe just not this piece.

Nevertheless, I love how the drama started out with no scenes of childhood, no slow development of how Bo/Thuma (Aff) got married, nothing of how she returned and entered the company and knew Pe/Pawan (Umm). It went right to the point such that I doubted I missed something when I watched the online streaming. Though there’re too many flashbacks in ep2 that went a bit draggy, it’s fine. Much better than 3 entire episodes of childhood (:

Love Aff but she still has something to learn. Eg when she’s playing shy, sometimes the shyness is played too superficially. Should have been played more inner-wise in my opinion but it’s just my personal preference afterall.

The pace of the drama is great too. Ep 5 Bo’s already leaving for Hawaii with Tik (I love P’Tik in this show! The actor’s named Petch isit? I’m not too sure?). Awww… though I still wish they’d give more sweet scenes of pranang rather than all the random and too much gay + rai&dad + rai&man etc etc. Not to my liking. But it’s fast at least and got me waiting for the next eps as they come.

Overall I’m loving it so far. Usually after I read Lyn’s caps I won’t bother to wait for the subs to watch the full video run, eg for Wong Wien Hua Jai. For this, I’m waiting for wishboniko to sub and watch almost full-run (skipped some of ploy, ae, tah, dad’s parts) because I want to know exactly what they said and see the expression and the tone of the actors in the scenes.

Just wish it’d continue to be good or even better so I’ll hang on till the end like how I haven’t been able to for any drama for quite  a while now. ((:

Vic Zhou – Residual Remembrance (Eng Trans.)

Posted by danseurella on September 15, 2009

Jo, I don’t know if this is the one you requested for since I was unable to open your link but I tried to search ‘vic should not’ on youtube and this is what I found. Have no idea why the uploader translated it as ‘should not’ since there’s no much link.

Residual Remembrance – Vic Zhou

In the corner of the living room

The clock stares at me from a distance

Slowly pushing me towards the end of happiness

Silently bypassing the greeting I was asked to pass on

Just pretend never to have heard it

In the alley opposite

A night livened by that performance

Suddenly realising my belief in their consistency

Several nights, your apology message  never appeared

My unexplainable longing

I still thought that happy ending will happen

Instead in the blink of an eye

Residual remembrance is left

I suspect how a person can retreat unscath

Before love, it’s only craziness

In the alley opposite  A night livened by that performance

Suddenly realising my belief in their consistency

Several nights, your apology message never appeared

My unexplainable longing

I still thought that happy ending will happen

Instead in the blinking of an eye

Residual remembrance is left

I suspect how a person can retreat unscath

Before love, it’s only craziness

Thought the smile in our photograph will always remain

Why did it leave residual remembrance in a single thought

I suspect if love appear again in my lifetime

Will I still have the energy to start again

Will I have the energy to start again

Got to admit this is sloppy. There are many parts in the song that I have no idea how to translate so that’s almost as best I can do.. :X

Truth behind Angela’s beat-up

Angela Chang

Ma Rui La

Recently, new-comer to entertainment circle Ma Rui La’s name’s frequently mentioned. However, her fame is associated with the shocking clip of Angela Chang’s (Zhang Shao Han) beat-up in a club published online on 9Aug. See here.

With the role of the ‘basher’, Ma instantaneously became the target of public criticism. Said clip sparked off much discussion among netizens, some sharp-eyed netizens even concluded this as a thorough piece of ‘stir-up news’ almost immediately. However, a set of photographs on Ma’s blog half-unreveled the mastermind of this issue. On 1Sep, Ma finally could no longer hold the psychological stress she’s enduring and pleaded for innocence on her blog that she didn’t beaten anyone up and admitted that everything was a stir-up for news coverage on the part of the record company.

Act 1: The clip

See here.
After searchings by netizens, the long-haired lady beating up ‘Angela’ was identified as new-comer Ma Rui La.

Act 2: Suspense

What does Ma and Chang has that caused Ma to slap Chang ruthlessly in public? Some netizens guessed that Angela Chang using an unorthodox method to boost popularity for her album release in September. However, this attracted more rebuttal from other netizens. The incident happened in a club. Due to the dim lightings, the clip was blurred. Except for the scene where Angela passed by before the camera which is slightly recognizable, Angela’s barely recognible. Many netizens held doubts towards the clip. Meticulous netizens even pointed out several major faults of the clip, and couldn’t understand why Chang would gain news coverage from being beaten.

Besides, Chang’s record company confirmed that the clip’s fake. During this period of time, Angela’s been in Taipei for the recording of her new album. How could she have appeared in China?

Act 3: Horror

Chang’s company’s answer calmed the nerves of fans and tuned down the incident for some time. Nonetheless, on 19Aug, the other party in this incident, Ma Rui La blogged some photographs of her being threatened, such as her door being painted with words like ‘lowdown’ and ‘die’ with red paint, even ‘Ma Rui La’s tomb’ is placed in front of her house. These photographs caused another sensation on the internet. However, this time round, Ma self-revealed on her blog that the photos and news are all a stir-up for news coverage. A number of netizens identify this as another act of attention-seeking as other than clearing her link with beating anyone up in the heading, the remaining content’s filled with threaten photos suspected to come from Chang’s fans. The heading of issue once again gained suspicions. Nevertheless, the mastermind of the ‘beat-up’ half-unrevelled.

Truth: Ma didn’t beat anyone up, Chang wasn’t beaten.

Facing netizens endless criticisms, Ma who has always been silent regarding the issue could no longer endure. On 1Sep, she published a wordy blog entry ‘I didn’t beat Angela Chang up! It’s all a stir-up from the company!’ This time round, Ma tried to tell the truth of the entire issue, hoping to overturn her image of a ‘bitchy woman’ with her sincerity.  Ma admitted to being subjected to immense pressure after the incident and could not bear to see her parents affected by this issue.

In fact, in this sensational beat-up issue, Ma is just a spectator. She said she’s not the basher and what’s most funny’s that she only knew of the incident from her parents. ‘When I looked it up online, all I found was discussions of me beating people up and attempting to stir news. I was stunned.’ When she called the company did she know that this is truly a specially arranged stir-up by the company.

To prove her innocence, Ma even unreveled the truth behind the incident. The person beaten up wasn’t Angela Chang but a participant in a competition who looks a little like Chang. Therefore the company made use of this to invite many people to put up an act of a birthday celebration then asked a behind-the-scene worker about the same fit as me to beat the fake Angela Chang up. This is all fake hoping to stir up attention from the media and netizens.’

Ma’s company called this a successful stir-up because many people now know of a singer named Ma Rui La. According to the company, Ma knew nothing of it and everything except the confession on Ma’s blog was arranged by the company, including the photographs.

I’m skeptical about the part of asking an assistant of similar height and fit to beat Chang up. Look, few even know of Ma Rui La before the incident. How could they have identified her just from her height and fit from a blurred clip if the face’s just a teeny weeny bit identical or not identical at all? There are so many identical with her figure. Anyway, this stir-up has obviously caused more negative than positive influence on Ma. What’s with the trust issue and all. No one likes to support a celebrity whose a liar. Especially a new-comer to the circle.
